Frequently Asked Question - GENERAL

Restyling is reworking a garment you already own into a fresh, updated piece, changing its shape, cut or details rather than making something new from scratch. It's a way to give clothes you love a second life instead of replacing them.

A basic alteration adjusts fit, taking in, letting out or shortening. Restyling goes further and changes the actual design, such as the neckline, sleeves, silhouette or the way a piece is worn. Most restyle projects include some alteration work as part of the transformation.

Yes, updating dated pieces is one of our most common restyle requests. We can refresh the cut, neckline, sleeves or length to bring an older garment in line with how you'd wear it today, while keeping what you loved about the original.

We restyle a wide range, including ethnic wear, eveningwear, dresses, suits and special-occasion pieces. If you're not sure whether something can be reworked, bring it in and we'll tell you honestly what's possible with that fabric and construction.

Yes, restyling is specifically for pieces you already have. Bring the garment in and we'll talk through what you'd like changed and what the fabric will allow.

HOW IT WORKS

We start with a consultation where you show us the garment and the look you're after. We then agree on the design changes, take any measurements needed, and carry out the work — usually with a fitting before the final finishing so the result is right.

Both, bring your own inspiration, a photo or a Pinterest image, or come in with just the garment and we'll suggest options. Our tailors will tell you which ideas genuinely suit the fabric, the construction and your body.

Yes, fit is part of the restyle, not a separate step. We measure and fit the garment to you as we rework it, so the finished piece is both restyled and properly fitted, even if your size has changed since you first bought it.

Yes, bring a reference image and we'll work towards that look. We'll also be honest about how it translates to your garment and body, since a style shown on one fabric or figure won't always work the same way on yours.

WHAT'S POSSIBLE

Yes, necklines, sleeves, hemlines and overall length are some of the most common restyle changes, and they often make the biggest difference in updating a garment's look. We'll advise which changes suit the piece.

Yes, restyling ethnic wear is one of our strengths, including reworking an old lehenga, suit or saree blouse into something you'll actually wear again. We handle delicate and embellished ethnic fabrics with care.

Yes, we often restyle sentimental and heirloom pieces, such as a mother's saree or an old wedding outfit, into something wearable today. These projects are handled with extra care to preserve the parts that matter most to you.

Yes, where there's enough usable fabric, we can repurpose it into a new or different piece. Bring the garment in so we can assess how much material there is and what it can realistically become.

Yes, resizing is often part of restyling. We can take a piece in or let it out, within the fabric's limits, while updating the design, so it both fits and feels current.

Yes, we regularly rework delicate, beaded and embroidered garments, taking care to protect the existing embellishment while changing the design. Mention the fabric type when you enquire so we can plan the work properly.

TIMING, PRICING & BOOKING

It depends on the garment and how much is being changed, a simple update may take 1 to 3 days, while a full transformation of a detailed piece can take 1 to 2 weeks. We'll give you a clear timeline once we've seen the garment.

Pricing depends on the garment, the complexity of the changes and any sourcing or embellishment involved. Bring the piece in or send a photo for an accurate quote.

Often, yes, restyling lets you keep a garment you already own and love rather than replacing it. For heavily embellished, designer or sentimental pieces, it's also a way to preserve value you can't easily buy again.

We recommend booking an appointment for restyle consultations and fittings at our DIP 1 boutique, so we can assess the garment properly and talk through your ideas. Walk-ins are welcome for enquiries during opening hours.
